The Climb for Good campaign at Kilimanjaro, Tanzania in 2025 is open to all and supports Rotary International activities. The climb this year will be from 5th to 14th October 2025. Itinerary details provided below.

8-Day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Pre-Climb Briefing

  • Pre-climb briefing with your mountain guide.
  • Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Moshi to Lemosho Gate to Big Tree (Mti Mkubwa) Camp

  • Transfer from Moshi to Lemosho Gate for registration.
  • Begin trekking through the rainforest zone.
  • Possible rainfall, making paths slightly slippery.
  • Trek: 3-4 hours | 7km / 4.5mi
  • Altitude: 2,100m (Start) → 2,780m (End)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Big Tree (Mti Mkubwa) Camp (Shared Public Campsite)

Day 3: Big Tree Camp to Shira One Camp

  • Leave the rainforest and enter the heather and moorland zone.
  • Hike across the Shira Ridge, with views of the Shira Peak.
  • Trek: 4-5 hours | 7km / 4.5mi
  • Altitude: 2,780m (Start) → 3,505m (End)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Shira One Camp (Shared Public Campsite)

Day 4: Shira One Camp to Shira Cathedral Peak to Shira Two Camp

  • Gradual hike across the Shira Plateau.
  • Optional hike to Shira Cathedral Peak (3,880m).
  • Stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s highest peak, Kibo.
  • Trek: 3-5 hours | 6km / 4mi
  • Altitude: 3,505m (Start) → 3,845m (End)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Shira Two Camp (Shared Public Campsite)

Day 5: Shira Two Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

  • Steady climb into the alpine desert, reaching Lava Tower (4,630m).
  • Important acclimatization point before descending into Barranco Valley.
  • Pass unique Kilimanjaro Senecios plants.
  • Trek: 6-8 hours | 10km / 6mi
  • Altitude: 3,845m (Start) → 3,960m (End)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Barranco Camp (Shared Public Campsite)

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Climb the Barranco Wall, a non-technical scramble.
  • Enjoy breathtaking views of the Heim Glacier.
  • Descend into Karanga Valley, the last water point before the summit.
  • Trek: 3-5 hours | 6km / 4mi
  • Altitude: 3,960m (Start) → 4,040m (End)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Karanga Camp (Shared Public Campsite)

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Hike through the alpine desert towards Kibo.
  • Early arrival at summit camp allows rest before the final ascent.
  • Trek: 3-4 hours | 4km / 2.5mi
  • Altitude: 4,040m (Start) → 4,640m (End)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Barafu Camp (Shared Public Campsite)

Day 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

  • Midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.
  • Reach Stella Point (5,685m) before the final summit push.
  • After sunrise, descend back to Barafu Camp for breakfast.
  • Continue descending to Mweka Camp in the rainforest zone.
  • Trek: 14-18 hours | 19km / 12mi
  • Altitude: 4,640m (Start) → 5,895m (Uhuru Peak) → 3,080m (End)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Mweka Camp (Shared Public Campsite)

Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

  • Final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate.
  • Meet your vehicle for transfer back to Moshi.
  • Crew farewell at the park gate.
  • Trek: 3-4 hours | 10km / 6mi
  • Altitude: 3,080m (Start) → 1,630m (End)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Celebration Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight:

Day 10: Departure

  • Check-out at 10:00 am.
  • Meals: Breakfast
